A copied list can contain inconsistent spacing, blank lines and repeated entries. DeskKit’s Text cleaner provides a small, predictable set of transformations. It is useful for a simple line-based list; it is not a parser for spreadsheets, source code or structured records.

What the cleaner changes

Each line is trimmed at both ends. Repeated spaces and tab characters within a line are reduced to a single space, and whitespace around the whole result is trimmed. These operations can alter indentation and alignment, so do not use them on code or fixed-width tables unless you intend that change.

Duplicate removal is optional

Enable Remove duplicate lines only if repeated entries are unwanted. The comparison happens after spacing is cleaned and is case-sensitive. “Delhi” and “delhi” remain separate entries. The first occurrence of a repeated cleaned line is kept, preserving the order of those first occurrences.

Work through a short example

  Delhi
Mumbai
Delhi
delhi

With duplicate removal enabled, the first and third lines become the same cleaned value, so one “Delhi” remains. The lowercase “delhi” stays because the comparison is case-sensitive. If that is not what you need, review the data’s meaning before applying a separate case conversion.

Steps to clean safely

  1. Keep an original copy of the list.
  2. Paste a small sample into Text cleaner first.
  3. Check what happens to spaces, blank lines and repeated entries.
  4. Enable duplicate removal if needed and inspect the full result.
  5. Choose a descriptive name, then copy, save or share the cleaned text.

When not to remove duplicates

A repeated line can be meaningful: it might represent two separate orders, repeated observations or a deliberate list item. Removing repeated text does not understand those distinctions. If each entry has a date, ID or other associated fields, use a tool that can treat the entire record correctly.

File handling

The cleaner works on pasted text in your browser. It does not open or edit a spreadsheet file in place. Saving produces a new text file, so your original source remains available for comparison.
